English Conversation Test Handout 01:
(Created 6 June 2001: Last updated 18 June 2001)
(Submission Week June 18 22, 2001.)
This is a role play performance test. Students need to select one of the conversation situations below. They need to make groups of 2, 3, 4 or 5 student and role play the conversation. To obtain a good grade, students must walk, stand up, smile, laugh, grunt, talk quiet and loud, talk with rising or falling voices, to fit the meaning of the conversation.
Choose one of the following parts from the handouts:
In all of the above you will need to role play. Extra points are given for attempts to fit your voice to the situation and the person. Extra points will also be given for trying to portray the situation. Extra points will be given for bringing things to fit the action, e.g., a bottle, playing cards. More active role play will indicate that you have a better understanding of the conversations. If your role play is not active it will suggest that your understanding of the conversation needs to be improved. Active role play is very important for pronunciation too. If you use a voice to fit the situation, your ability to speak with a native English sound will be improved.
Good luck, thank you for trying to do your best! If you make good effort, you will get great grades.
Please remember, copies of all of the handouts can be found on my university homepage. There is a link in the University Homepage.
